Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza Slot Machine Review and Play for Free
Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is an Ash Gaming title released by Playtech. This DC Comics slot game released in 2016 is focusing on the original 1960s Batman TV show, and it is nice to go back to see Batman from that time. I was quite happy to get to see real footage from the series showing Batman, Robin, Batgirl and Alfred, and all Batman fans will be happy to see that as well.
Main game and paytable
The game uses fixed 60 paylines, and the minimum bet per spin is $0.30 for those 60 paylines. Maximum bet is $30. The reel set isn’t a standard 5×3 but these five reels are a bit different. The first two reels have only two symbols on each, while the remaining three reels are four symbols high. This is a total of 16 symbols on the reels, actually one more than on a 5×3 board. The bigger reels can have stacked symbols of Batman, Robin and Batgirl. There are two versions – either one character is on one stacked symbol, or two characters share the same stacked symbol, which is then called a co-op symbol.
The game does have the potential of issuing huge wins, as for example five Wilds will give you a 2000x win, and the two bonus features can also pay very well. But it’s difficult to squeeze out a decent win from this slot, as it often annoyed me with wins smaller than the bet. It takes some time to make this slot pay. Theoretical return to player (RTP) is 96.00% and variance feels high.
It was fun for me to play this game because the co-op symbols have their own game mechanics you must pay attention to, the two small reels have a mind of their own, and what you’re actually waiting for are the three Scatters on reels 3, 4 and 5. This game makes you pay attention to everything, and it takes many spins to really come to terms with this game enough to play it intuitively. The process to get there is fun.
The two small reels on the left are actually a 2×2 box in which you’re supposed to land four matching symbols. If you do so, you’ll win 5 Bat-tastic Re-spins. The symbols in the 2×2 box will lock for the duration of re-spins, and the other three reels will spin four times. Whenever I landed a high-value symbol in the box, the win that came from this feature has been substantial. Payout can be massive, in rare cases even 100x your bet.
Bonus Scatter symbol appears on the three bigger reels, and when you land one Scatter on each reel you’ll trigger the Batman Team-up Free Games. You’ll get boxes to pick and can get 12, 17 or 25 free spins, depending on your luck with the choice. During the free spins, the 2×2 reels will host one giant symbol, always a different one, and the big three reels will spin normally. This can produce some big wins, in a similar manner to Bat-tastic Re-spins, but here the win can be even bigger. It’s a potentially very rewarding feature.
On top of all this there’s the progressive jackpot, as all DC Comics games by Playtech contribute to and can win the DC Super Heroes progressive jackpot. There are four jackpots to be won, Mini, Minor, Major and Grand. The jackpot feature can be triggered totally at random, and entry to the feature guarantees a win of one of four jackpots. The Grand Jackpot can go above a million.
Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is one of better slot games out there, and definitely a good member of the DC Comics portfolio. I found the gameplay to be very innovative as lots of unexpected things can happen, the slot pays well, and the high variance suits this slot perfectly. Very good title, and all slot players should give it a go, whether or not they’re fans of superhero slots.
