Africa Goes Wild is a slot game I liked a lot when I played it for several hours for the purposes of this review, so let me give you an honest opinion about this Leander release from September 2018. It’s a modern slot game that has excellent graphics and is likely one of the best African-themed and wildlife-themed slots when it comes to graphics and theme. The animals in this game are photorealistic, and the rest of the theme, the animations and especially the music and sounds make this slot look even better.
Theoretical return to player (RTP) is 96.04%, good enough, and more than you’ll get with most African themed slots, as most of them are classic slots which don’t pay that well. Here you have access to 1024 paylines and can play a slot game with medium variance that’s easy and enjoyable to play. You can’t win a life changing amount of money in this slot game, it’s not that type of slot, but things can get quite rewarding both during the main game and the free spins game with the randomly triggered Animals Go Wild feature.
Main game and paytable
Africa Goes Wild is played on a large 5×4 board that uses 1024 ways to win game mechanics, that is basically 243 ways to win extrapolated on a larger board. It’s enough for symbols to be on adjacent reels to produce a win. There are eleven symbols in the paytable plus a Wild and a Scatter, which is plenty but then the board is large enough to accomodate all those different symbols and you got 1024 ways to win to work with. Six of those symbols are card symbols, but actually this is a low variance paytable in which most of the symbols pay the same. Lion is the only symbol that stands out as it offers a 300 coin prize for five-of-a-kind, while all other symbols offer prizes of 80 to 150 coins. The main difference, however, is that the five Animals – Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Jaguar – pay a good prize for four-of-a-kind while the card symbols do not.
Animals Go Wild is a random feature that can get triggered anytime during the main game. It will choose one random symbol and then all instances of that symbol on the board will turn Wild. Of course, it’s good for you if a more common symbol is chosen to be a Wild, as then you’ll likely have many Wilds on the board, while the high-win symbols remain there to combine with Wilds to get those winning paylines. This is a good feature that can bring some very nice wins.
The Free Spins Scatter appears on reels 1, 3 and 5, so you need to land all three to trigger the free spins game. When you land only two Scatters and are therefore one short, the Animal Stampede feature will come to rescue and will help you get that third Scatter sometimes. When you trigger the free spins game you’ll get 10 free spins, and Wild symbols will now have a x2 win multiplier. A special Golden Lion symbol will be added to reel 5, and it can award extra spins, win multipliers or the Animals Go Wild feature – which is the best thing that can happen.
Africa Goes Wild is a fun slot game with good payout and good bonus features, so it’s a good choice for anyone who’s looking for an Africa themed slot, and there are many players who enjoy wildlife themes. This is one of the better slots in that genre and is a good choice whenever you want to play an African themed slot. This is an overall very good slot game by Leander Games, and it deserves a few spins.
