I’ll be honest, when I saw that this slot game had the title of Thor’s Lightning, I was expecting to access an offering that falls in line with most of the others surrounding this theme. Yet, I was very pleasantly surprised from the first moment by this Red Tiger slot. Not only does it have a different layout and design to it, but the inbuilt features and way of forming wins are entirely different, too. When you consider that Thor’s Lightning also has some impressive graphics and base gameplay for you to experience as well, it stands out as being a compelling slot offering.
Main Game and Paytable
The main game features a layout of seven reels and rows, although they don’t actually move in the way that a standard video slot would. Instead, every time you press the spin button, all the icons fall off the screen and new ones appear to replace them. There isn’t really any set of pay lines either, with wins forming whenever five or more of the same symbol appear in a cluster together. You can alter your wager easily though, with bets between £0.20 and £40 being available.
The symbols that appear on the reels are all very Viking and runic-looking, with four lower-paying symbols coming in the form of runes. Different cluster amounts will pay out different rewards, with up to 25 times your wager being available for clusters of the yellow rune. The four higher-paying standard symbols are of the raven, the wolf, the Yggdrasil tree and Thor’s hammer. The latter of these four can pay out up to 500 times your stake.
A wild symbol is also present in the form of Thor’s helmet. Whenever this shows up, it will substitute for all standard paying symbols, helping you create wins.
My favourite part of the Thor’s Lightning slot is the ability to trigger free spins. Whenever you create wins on the reels, any blocks adjacent to the central circle will unlock the tiles. Reveal all of these tiles and you’ll trigger one of two free spins rounds. These are the Muspell Spins and the Valhalla Spins.
In Muspell Spins, only high-paying symbols will show up on the reels and a Lava Feature comes into play. Lava can randomly destroy symbols or add one specific type of symbol to the seven reels. It can also add wild symbols to the reels. Valhalla Spins will set off with only golden shield icons appearing on the reels. These lock in place and reveal stake multipliers when the free spins round ends.
I’m also a fan of the Lightning Feature, which can trigger randomly during the main game. This sees Thor show up and summon lightning down on to the reels, removing all low-paying symbols in the process. It can also turn random icons into one and the same type or wild symbols.
The other remaining feature of this game goes by the name of Hammer. Thor will show up and throw his Hammer to remove various symbols on the reels or nudge reels and rows to ensure that you form wins.
This is a Red Tiger game that I truly could play every day and never get bored of, I’m sure. There’s just so much to enjoy about it, from its awesome graphics and base gameplay through to the inclusion of two free spins rounds and the random main game perks. It provided me with a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and I’m certain that it will do the same for you.
